Freeze Sleeve: A product to reduce swelling; combines cold compression with a highly flexible Hydro-Gel that contours to you for comfort and movement ensuring you are not stuck on the couch. No straps, no water, just Freeze it Sleeve it and Relieve it!

Why Cold and Compression

Cold, often called Cryotherapy, and static compression is commonly used for the treatment of pain and inflammation after acute injury or surgical procedures. Cryotherapy has become one of the most common treatments in orthopedic medicine.

The reason for using cold is to lower the temperature of the injured tissue. The reduction in temperature reduces the metabolic rate and helps the injured tissue survive the period after the issue. Several studies have shown that metabolic rate decreases by application of cryotherapy. Compression is often used in conjunction with cryotherapy for the care of injuries. Applying compression increases the external pressure on the tissue to prevent edema (swelling). The compression reduces the fluid loss from the vessels in the injured area, making it more difficult for fluids to accumulate.

Ice with compression is also colder than ice alone, because of the improved skin contact and increased tissue density caused by the compression. Tissue reaches its lowest temperature faster and the tissue stays cool even after treatment ends.

About Achilles Tendonitis

Learn About Achilles Tendonitis and Care Kit

So what is Achilles Tendonitis? It is the irritation and/or injury of the Tendon that connects the calf muscles to heal of your foot. This injury is usually a result of over use or a new activity such a start of a new season or new walking program. The symptoms are a tightness and pain in at the heal and tenderness at the Achilles. The Achilles Tendon connects the heel to your powerful calf muscle and is what gives you the push off and jump. As a result, the Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in your body.

Cause

The Achilles tendon is designed to connect and transfer the power of your calf to the foot.  When the entire posterior chain (from the back of the leg to the foot) get tight and are overused the Achilles tendon can get micro tears and inflamed resulting in a Tendonitis. In the extreme the Achilles can even rupture. There are two types of Achilles tendonitis; insertional tendonitis when the micro-tears occur where the tendon inserts at the top of the heal and non-insertional tendonitis where it occurs in the middle of the tendon.

Symptoms

Some of the most common symptoms include.:

    • Pain and stiffness along the Achilles tendon in the morning
    • Pain along the tendon or back of the heel that worsens with activity
    • Severe pain the day after exercising
    • Thickening of the tendon
    • Bone spur (insertional tendinitis)
    • Swelling that is present all the time and gets worse throughout the day with activity

About Plantar Fasciitis

Learn About Plantar Fasciitis (Heel Pain/Bottom of the foot pain )

The most common cause of pain on the bottom of the heel is Plantar Fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis occurs when the strong band of tissue that supports the arch of your foot becomes irritated and inflamed.

Anatomy

The plantar fascia connects the heel to the front of your foot and supports the arch with a long, thin ligament that lies directly beneath the skin.

Cause

The plantar fascia is designed to be absorb the shock and strains we place on our feet. Sometimes, that strain and shock is too much and the tissue becomes damaged and tears. The body's natural response to injury is inflammation, which results in the heel pain and stiffness of plantar fasciitis.

Risk Factors

Many times Plantar Fasciitis occurs for no reason. There are, however, many factors that can make you more prone to the condition:

      • Tighter calf muscles that make it difficult to flex your foot and bring your toes up toward your shin
      • Obesity
      • Very high arch
      • Repetitive impact activity (running/sports)
      • New or increased activity
